Agree on the purpose.

Talk about when your family will share a journey, who will be able to view it and when sharing should stop. A clear agreement is more useful than assuming everyone understands a new app the same way.

Set up before you leave.

  1. Confirm your beta access and device compatibility.
  2. Create or choose the correct family group.
  3. Pair your supported device using its displayed code.
  4. Review invited members and location permissions.

Try a short, familiar route.

Start sharing with the viewer nearby and confirm a recent location appears. Then try a short journey together or with another responsible adult. Check the update time and try a brief message so the delivery states feel familiar.

Practice the end of the trip.

Stop sharing on the tracked device. Look at what remains visible to the viewer, including the last-known location. If you set up Places, check the tracker’s arrival/departure subscriptions and your notification preferences.

Keep the routine simple.

Charge the device, check permissions and connectivity, and agree on what to do if updates are delayed. Follow your school’s device policy. A successful practice run helps you understand the app; it does not guarantee that every future journey will have uninterrupted coverage.
